St Andrew's Hospital Foundation Ride n Stride 2010

Thank You to all those that participated in the St Andrew's Hospital fundraising event, the Ride n Stride.

It was also great to see strong representation from Hospital staff, Doctors, specialists and the larger St Andrew's medical community participate, along with Board Members, and members of the Foundation Trustees, supporting the event.

Thanks to members of the Professional Cycling team, Team Orbea, who all took time from their racing schedules to ride and participate in the event.

A special mention must go to our 1st Male & Female riders, of the 35kms and 75kms routes, respectively - Matt Wood, Lindsey Edmunds, Ben Creighton and Lisa Elliston. Well done!

St Andrew's Hospital Foundation Annual Breast Cancer Day Luncheon 2008

As part of National Breast Cancer Month, October, the Breast Centre nurses of St Andrew's Hospital, held their Annual Breast Cancer Day.

The luncheon was held on Tuesday 13th October, in a marquee on the lawns of Waverley House.

The event, which is supported by the Foundation, has been running for 10 years and has grown in momentum, reputation, and success for the patients, staff and community of St Andrew's Hospital.

Almost 300 guests braved the wet & windy conditions, and despite the heavy rain, the marquee was filled to capacity.

The Director of Nursing, Lorri Bruun, officially opened the day and Board member, Ms Susy Daw, emceed and hosted the proceedings.

Guests were treated to a delicious luncheon and refreshments, were entertained with a fashion parade, hosted by Glenda Harris from Amoena Australia, along with the assistance from Myer Rundle Mall's staff and models.

Four guest speakers spoke on the day and covered a range of topics, such as general cancer prevention advice, personal and individual stories from survivors, with 891's sports journalist, Peter Walsh, finishing the speaking component of the day, on a lighter and comical note.

A wide range of members of the South Australian Breast Cancer community attended and was available for general information and discussion. These organisations included; Jennifer Nicholls Designs, Warriors Abreast, Dragons Boats SA, Look Good Feel Better, Breast Cancer Network Australia, Zonta Club, YWCA, South Australian Familial Cancer Service, CanSA, and the Cancer Council of South Australia.

The day concluded with the raffle draw, which is always great fun for all, and this year saw some tremendous prizes on offer, many of which were generously donated by members of the Hutt Street business community to other well-known Adelaide organisations. Prizes ranged from a champagne breakfast for 6 at Citrus on Hutt, to a Balinese body massage, a day spa body pampering package, to movie vouchers and Haigh's chocolates vouchers.

The event proved a great success for all those attended; the raffle assisted in raising funds for the Foundation, and is a great opportunity for the St Andrew's Breast Care nurses to receive some well-deserved recognition and appreciation from the crowd.

Taylors Wines Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend

Taylors Wines Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend

The second annual Taylors Wines Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend was held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd 2009.

The Clare Valley Gourmet Weekend is the first of its kind in Australia and the event continues a tradition that began in 1985 where a pioneering group of local winemakers continued their innovative approach to food and wine, with a bigger and better schedule of events encompassing and showcasing the region.

In conjunction with the Foundation's major sponsor, Taylors Wines, St Andrew's Hospital was offered the opportunity to attend and receive VIP treatment for the day, hosted at Taylors Winery.

Guests were collected and transported by coach from the Hospital, and made their way up to the Clare Valley. After a brief stop in Auburn for coffee and refreshments, the group headed off to the Winery.

As part of the VIP package, the St Andrew's group was treated to a range of superb Taylors wines throughout the day, a delicious gourmet lunch catered by Sosta's Argentinean restaurant, a goodie bag filled with exclusive Taylors items, including a limited edition wine glass.

The crowd were able to sit in the beautiful grounds of the Winery enjoying the sunshine with a covers band playing perfect sunny afternoon music.

The event proved another great success for the Hospital and the Foundation and special thanks must go to Taylors Wines' staff, Cherry Stowman, Adam Eggins and Neil Jericho, for their generosity and organisation on the day.
